Haggis Neeps and Tatties

Celebrating 10,000 hours at Bushy Point and much much more!

On Friday 4th of July the Otatara Landcare Group held a midwinter event celebrating lots of good things happening in the Otatara environment! Chalking up 10,000 hours of work and 25,000 plants at Bushy Point, successful Otatara pestbusting, bird rescue at Bush Haven, Community Nursery Education Centre to name but a few.

on a stormy winter night fifty people came to celebrate including our Living Legend, all-black Kevin Laidlaw. The main show was provided by the Smith/McKenzie family with Fiona on bagpipes, Barry addressing the Haggis, Robyn on Haggis preparation, Lloyd McEsler on the sword and Glenda Graham on the whisky!

It was a fun way to celebrate the successes of the Otatara Landcare Group and its volunteers and supporters and I can see it becoming an annual Otatara mid-winter event.

Calling all muggles!

Take a look at the recent geocaching event held at Bushy Point!

The geocaching event on Sunday 6 October was an eyeopener for me - a “muggle” or non-geocacher! I learned a new language and those geocaching novices also learned a bit about Bushy Point. The introduction to geocaching was led by Edith Jones and participants enjoyed an hour of walking and searching.
